Samsung TV Remote Recharge Over WiFi Through Radio Frequency

Must Read

In recent times, Samsung has been pushing the envelope on eco-innovations. For example, in 2021, Samsung TV Remote enthusiasts were treated with a solar panel back, wherein its Eco Remote could charge by itself with sunlight or even strong enough lamps.

Now, in 2022, Samsung has surprised its users again, this time with the ability to draw power for its latest Eco Remote over Wi-Fi. Using RF harvesting technology, the Samsung TV remote can theoretically stay on forever. But, how does it work?

Samsung Introduces Radio Frequency Harvesting for TV Remote Charging

During the CES 2022, Samsung announced the use of radio frequency (RF) harvesting technology to keep your TV Eco Remote perpetually at full charge.

Using radio wave harvesting tech, the Samsung TV Remote can pull a small amount of power from the surrounding RF waves in the environment.

Using RF energy harvesters, rectifying antennas inside the Samsung TV Remote can store energy in capacitors that power the remote.

According to Samsung, its Eco Remote can gather energy from any 2.4GHz RF signal within 40 meters, giving it decent coverage for most homes.

The remote will likely charge through your Wi-Fi signal, which is composed of radio waves. The most commonly used Wi-Fi band is 2.4GHz, broadcast by pretty much every router.

Samsung Retains Key Elements of the Previous Eco Remote

In line with its eco-friendly objective, the remote will also feature a recycled material and a minimalist design available in black and white.

For those who aren’t sold yet, its new TV remote also retains its solar panel charging features. With this, the Samsung Eco Remote users can experience the benefits of solar charging during the day and radio wave charging at night.

Aside from this, the new Samsung Eco Remote will also have voice control and shortcuts for top streaming sites such as Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and Samsung’s TV Plus.

You’ll Never Need Batteries Again With a Samsung TV Remote

While only time will tell if RF harvesting technology is worth the hype, it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

In tandem with its solar back panel, the new Samsung Eco remote lets users charge at any time of the day. Not to mention, it eliminates the need for TV remote batteries forever.
